At the recent ALMA (Latin American First Ladies and Gentlemen Alliance) summit, Panama’s First Lady reaffirmed the nation’s dedication to child welfare and regional humanitarian collaboration. She emphasized the shared responsibility of Latin American countries to address challenges such as inequality, lack of opportunities, and the absence of effective mechanisms for social mobility.
Although Panama has recently concluded its pro tempore presidency of ALMA, the First Lady highlighted the country’s ongoing support for the alliance under Guatemala’s current leadership. She emphasized that the collective efforts of First Ladies and Gentlemen remain crucial for advancing human development and social inclusion across the region.
A significant outcome of the summit was the adoption of the Joint Declaration and the establishment of the Global Humanitarian Coalition of First Ladies and Gentlemen. This initiative aims to consolidate international efforts on priority issues such as health, nutrition, education, and the protection of the most vulnerable populations.
In her address, the First Lady stated, “Beyond flags and borders, we share a commitment: peace begins with people, and leadership begins with care.” These words reflect the cooperative spirit that defines ALMA, a platform dedicated to coordinating impactful social actions led by First Ladies and Gentlemen throughout Latin America.
Through this participation, Panama continues to position itself as a committed actor in regional humanitarian causes and the building of more equitable and resilient societies.
