Panama reaffirmed its leadership as a strategic center for foreign investment in 2024 with the incorporation of 12 new companies under the special regime of Multinational Companies Headquarters (SEM), which represent a total of US$24.2 million in investments.

New additions to the SEM regime come from sectors such as technology, agribusiness and manufacturing, reflecting Panama’s ability to attract investments in areas of high added value.

Among these companies are Hisense and CMI Alimentos Global, which, together, have made an investment of US$2,257,400.00. Hisense, a leading Chinese multinational in appliances and electronic products, has chosen Panama as its headquarters to expand its operations to Latin America and Asia.

For its part, CMI Alimentos Global, one of the largest agro-industrial corporations in Central America, has established an operations center in Panama to manage activities in 14 countries, including North America, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe.

The Minister of Trade and Industries, Julio Moltó, highlighted the importance of the SEM regime as a key tool to diversify the economy and attract quality investments.

“With the incorporation of new multinational companies under the SEM regime, Panama continues to consolidate itself as a strategic business center in the region. We will continue working to strengthen the investment climate and attract more companies, with the aim of maintaining sustained growth and strengthening our competitiveness at a global level,” Moltó said.
