Panama – Colombia Electrical Interconnection Refloated

News from Panama / Thursday, June 12th, 2014

President Varela who takes office next month has announced the revival of a project that has been elusive for several years due to lack of economic viability.  An article on Larepublica.co reports on the reactivation of the power interconnection project with Colombia “… and that the project with Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) will be refloated, this being the company that is building the main electricity dams in the in the neighboring country.”

“… The president’s proposal is that the transmission line will have capacity to transport 600 MW, not 300, in order to ensure energy security in the country over the next 20 years, and hire EPM for consultancy on evaluating cooperation regarding the sewer issue, for which they are studying models in Barranquilla, Cartagena and Medellin.
