The Panama Canal has reported a strong interest from the private sector in participating in its port concessions, a process modeled after the successful implementation of the gas pipeline project. Canal Administrator Ricaurte Vásquez noted that companies have shown a willingness to engage from the early stages, with several traveling exclusively to attend the initial event, indicating the appeal of these new logistical opportunities.
Vásquez made these remarks during the 20th-anniversary celebration of the Canal Watershed Participatory Platform (CHCP), an event that brought together community representatives, local authorities, and canal workers.
The Canal’s work schedule is progressing as planned, with expressions of interest accepted until October 10. Individual meetings are scheduled for November 18, with the possibility of adjustments based on participant feedback.
Regarding operational performance, Vásquez announced that the fiscal year, which concludes this week, will end with revenues exceeding projections, enabling a review of contributions to the Central Government.
These developments underscore the Panama Canal’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure and fostering public-private partnerships to strengthen its position as a global logistics hub.
