On September 17, 2025, the Budget Committee of the National Assembly of Panama approved a budget transfer of B/.28.8 million (approximately $28.8 million USD) to the Ministry of Health (MINSA). This allocation aims to reinforce healthcare services across the country.
Minister of Health, Fernando Boyd Galindo, highlighted that these funds will be utilized for the procurement of medical equipment, supplies, and hospital materials. Additionally, the budget will support the hiring of healthcare and administrative personnel to enhance service delivery.
Minister Boyd Galindo emphasized that this approval will enable more efficient care for the population and strengthen hospital infrastructure, particularly in areas with higher service demand.
Furthermore, Minister Boyd Galindo informed that MINSA currently has an outstanding debt of approximately B/.40 million (around $40 million USD) in seniority bonuses, accumulated since 2014.
In response, the Ministry is working on compiling an official list of former employees to establish a gradual payment plan to settle this obligation.
