The company UEP Penonomé II plans to invest $130 million in the construction of the fourth phase of the wind farm, increasing total capacity to 67 MW.
The company in charge of the project announced that in the fourth stage it will add 25 new turbines, which could be of a size greater than those already present on the wind farm. It is expected that construction work will begin in January 2016.
Panamaamerica.com.pa reports that “… Stages I, II and III have already been finished, with 270 megawatts of installed capacity, using 108 wind turbines. According to Rafael Pérez-Pire, CEO of Penonomé UEP II, SA, the company has invested $570 million in all three phases and this includes an investment of $130 million for the fourth stage. ”
Perez Pire said “… ‘We have supplied nearly twice the energy that was scheduled in the first half of the year. We have provided 11% of energy in the system.'”
