The Security Ministers of Costa Rica and Panama announced on Monday the implementation of bus routes as a “humanitarian and regulated” strategy to attend to the return of migrants in their countries, given the policies implemented by the United States Government.

When inaugurating a customs in Peñas Blancas, Costa Rica, the Minister of Security of that country, Mario Zamora, announced that this Monday a bus route began on the Costa Rican border that, upon arriving in Panama, will transfer to another bus that will take passengers to the border with Colombia.

“Today the system of buses that will leave from Peñas Blancas and Tablillas in the direction of border to our southern Catem (Temporary Attention Center for Migrants) was officially established, and from there they will then board buses from the sister Republic of Panama, which will take them to the Panama-Colombia border so that those people can safely return to their countries of origin,” Zamora explained.

CNN has requested more information from the governments of Costa Rica and Panama to know the frequencies of the bus routes, the number of migrants that will be able to attend and is waiting for that information.

The Ministry of Security of Panama confirmed to CNN that in this operation, migration authorities collect migrants in Peñas Blancas, the border of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, from there to transfer them to the Catem of the border with Panama. Then, in Panamanian territory, they are transferred to the migrant care center of Lajas Blancas, in the Darién plug.
