The ASEP has reactivated the license granted to Panama NG Power to build and operate a 670 MW generating plant based on natural gas in Cristobal, province of Colon.
The license initially granted in 2011, was canceled during the current administration of the Public Services Authority (ASEP) because of delays in delivering information on Panama NG Power’s project financing. Now, “… The appeal on constitutional guarantees granted by the Supreme Court to the company has forced the Asep to declare the license valid.”
Prensa.com reports that “…This decision opens the door for the company Panama NG Power, linked to entrepreneur Alfredo Mello Alemán, to enter the market as the third plant using natural gas as a fuel source, which despite being of thermal origin is seen as a competitive player in the industry because of its low cost and reduced pollution.”
“… This project is similar to the plant that is being built right now by the company Gas Natural Atlántico, a subsidiary of AES Corporation, with a capacity of 381 megawatts and which will come into operation using natural gas in 2018.”
