Panama challenging Florida as gateway to Americas

What a great graphic.  Google Earth always puts things in a true perspective and it is obvious why Panama is the gateway to the Americas.  Here is a great article in the Jacksonville Business Journal.

Florida may soon see an increase in the sale of blueberries and strawberries to Panama, but Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam warned late last week the state may find itself challenged as the region’s economic hub by the Central American nation.

While the Sunshine State has been bulking up its ports and transportation infrastructure in anticipation of the completion of the widening of the Panama Canal, Florida may need to up its game amid infrastructure investments being made by Panama, Putnam said.

As for economic growth for Florida out of the trip, Putnam said a deal is pending that could allow Florida blueberries to be sold in Panama and to increase the sale of strawberries from the state.
