A joint initiative of the Ministry of Culture and the National Assembly of Panama, aimed at promoting culture, education and entrepreneurship through the Creative Economy, was published this week in the Official Gazette No. 29973 becoming Law 424.

The main objective of this new law is to promote the Creative Economy as a strategic sector and engine of cultural, social and economic development in the country. The Creative Economy covers various areas such as performing arts, cinema, design, video game creation, tourism and gastronomy, among others, all of which generate thousands of jobs and contribute to general economic growth.

In 2023, the Ministry of Culture, through the National Directorate of Creative Economy, organized 10 markets of this industry in various regions of the country, reaching about 8,000 people in places such as Panama Centro, La Chorrera, Portobelo, Bocas del Toro and Chiriquí. In addition, 15 workshops were offered in which 400 people participated, who were able to better understand the importance of the creative economy.

With the publication of this law, the Ministry of Culture will be able to expand the achievements achieved in 2023, strengthening the ecosystem of the creative economy, promoting education in culture, entrepreneurship and creative industries, and enhancing the economy of local communities.
