President José Raúl Mulino confirmed that Paraguay’s President, Santiago Peña, will make an official visit to Panama on Monday, October 20. During his visit, President Peña is scheduled to address the National Assembly on topics related to the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) and Latin American integration.
President Mulino expressed his anticipation for a fruitful visit, highlighting President Peña’s longstanding friendship with Panama and his role as a key advocate for Panama’s inclusion in Mercosur. He also acknowledged the National Assembly’s recent approval of the law ratifying Panama’s status as an Associated State of Mercosur, a move that strengthens Panama’s position within the bloc.
Looking ahead, President Mulino confirmed his participation in the Mercosur Presidential Summit in Brasília, Brazil, on December 2, where Panama’s official status as an Associated State will be formalized.
Panama to Host International Events in 2025
President Mulino emphasized Panama’s growing role as a host for significant international events. Notably, Panama will host the 3rd International Forum on Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management from October 22 to 24, organized by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This forum aims to foster the exchange of experiences, technical knowledge, and best practices among key stakeholders from the public, private, academic, scientific, and community sectors.
UTP Dormitory Project to Enhance Student Life
In line with his campaign promises, President Mulino announced a substantial state investment to construct dormitories for students at the University of Panama (UTP). This initiative aims to improve the quality of student life and support academic success by providing modern and comfortable living accommodations on campus.
