The Minister of Housing and Territorial Planning, Jaime Jované, announced the projection of delivery of about 3,100 housing solutions in the next 90 days and 500 more at the end of the year, in addition to the 1,274 households in the country benefited from basic housing units and with the housing improvement project, in the first months of management.
According to a report submitted to President José Raúl Mulino and the Cabinet Council, Jované added that with this acceleration we will reach families in the provinces of Coclé, Colón, Panama West and the Ngäbe Buglé region; pace of delivery that has been sustained, taking into account the effort that is being printed to collect works that were abandoned, impacting more than 10,000 people.
He added that for provinces such as Herrera and Chiriquí, plans are planned – in the medium term – with the construction of housing in buildings with the aim of densifying these areas, covering the lack of units and promoting construction that, at the same time, creates employment.
He stressed that, between July 2024 and April 2025, these 1,274 households benefited, however, this ministry projects until July 2025 – next – to contribute to improving the quality of life of about 62 more families of the project basic housing units and 31 with housing improvements
He also announced that – through the Housing Improvement Directorate – the tender for two projects of 150 homes distributed nationwide and 2 apartment complexes for low-income families is managed.
Between the rescued works and the projects to be generated, the head of Miviot said that there is an investment of more than 23 million dollars that permeate, mainly, on families with few resources, who now have decent homes to reside.
In addition, he highlighted the approval and sanction of Law 468 on Preferential Interests, a rule of which he said, now facilitates the acquisition of a first home, offers preferential sections in 2 regions (1 -Panama and West Panama- and 2 -rest of the country-), subsidy according to the differences in minimum wages in these two regions that influence to sustain the letter to be applied to the loan.
In his report, offered at the Cabinet session, he also highlighted the early completion of the second stage of Alto de Los Lagos with the delivery of 2,40 apartments, a contract that presents an advance of 72% and that was inherited with limitations, including the lack of connection to the drinking water system, damaged pumping stations and infrastructure problems remedied.
In the new projects, said Minister Jované, the areas to benefit have been selected by locating land where there are infrastructures that guarantee viability, education, drinking water supply, wastewater management, health center and transport.
“We want them to have this type of facilities so that families do not have to move to look for the necessary public services… The requirements of each family are reviewed, including their first home, which are scarce resources and financial…” he concluded.
