A total of 4.9 million tons of copper, whose unit price today is US$8,455.00, has exported Minera Panama for four years and its main buyers are China, Japan, South Korea, Spain and Germany.
Cobre Panama celebrated the fourth anniversary of the start of copper concentrate exports from the international port of Punta Rincón in the province of Colón, representing about 5% of GDP and 2.3% of the country’s total occupation, with more than 40,000 jobs associated between direct and indirect, reported the country manager of Cobre Panama, Keith Green.
According to a study by the firm INDESA, about US$5, of every US$100 produced in Panama are associated with the production of the copper mine in a direct, indirect or induced way. With respect to the province of Colón, approximately US$17 of every US$100 produced is associated and in the province of Coclé US$6 of every US$100 is associated.
“We are proud to be able to provide future opportunities to our neighboring communities that allow them to improve their economy, educate their children, cultivate their land and start their businesses. Likewise, we are pleased to invest in the development of our collaborators who are highly trained, as well as that our copper, 100% Panamanian, contributes to the transition to clean energy,” Green said.
The mine is operated by more than 7,000 collaborators, where it is highlighted that 91% are Panamanians and 67% of them are from the interior of the country. Meanwhile, approximately 2 out of every 100 jobs that exist in the country are associated with the production of the copper mine directly, indirectly or induced by the consumption made by workers. In the case of the province of Colón, about 5 out of 100 jobs would be linked and in the province of Coclé, 4 out of 100.
Since the start of exports in 2019, the mining company has exported 4.9 million wet tons of copper concentrate.
