MICI and AZUCALPA analyze progress of the ethanol project to promote sustainable energy in Panama

 The Deputy Minister of Industries and Commerce, Eduardo Arango, met with representatives of the Sugars and Alcohols Association of Panama (AZUCALPA) with the aim of learning about the progress of the Ethanol project for Panama, after previous meetings with the Ministry of Energy and the oil companies.

During the meeting, Cristina Thayer, executive director of AZUCALPA, and Mario Rodríguez, vice president of the association, presented the content and progress of the Country Plan, underlining the importance of evaluating the role and benefits of biofuels and ethanol in boosting the country’s economic growth.

Deputy Minister Arango stressed that this meeting with AZUCALPA has allowed progress on an issue of great relevance, not only for the energy sector, but also for economic growth and job creation. “We will continue to work hand in hand with the actors in the sector to ensure the success of this project and maximize its benefits for the country,” he said.

In this context, it is important to highlight Law 355 of January 31, 2023, which authorizes the use of bioethanol and reforms Law 42 of 2011, establishing the guidelines for the national policy on biofuels and electricity from biomass in the territory.
