Más Móvil will have an expansion footprint in 366 sites covering Panama City that will benefit from the new 5G functionalities
Six months after having started the first pilots in a controlled environment of the fifth generation mobile networks, Más Móvil officially announces the activation of the initial phase of the 5G network in Panama.
The announcement of the launch of 5G networks in Panama by Más Móvil debuts today, allowing new possibilities and the ability to connect a large number of simultaneous devices from faster loading speeds and downloads.
The 5G Más Móvil network allows a more efficient use of the radio spectrum, providing a better consumer experience in terms of speed, decreased latency and greater stability.
In this first phase, Más Móvil will have an expansion footprint in 366 sites covering Panama City that will benefit from the new 5G functionalities with compatible devices in the initial coverage areas among which are Juan Díaz (Los Pueblos), Lefevre Park (Panama Viejo), Condado del Rey (Rod Carew Stadium, Altaplaza Mall), San Francisco, Miraflores and Amador).
The company is launching an offer of up to 50% discount on phones for those who do not yet have a compatible device. +Mobil customers in postpaid from $28 onwards and prepaid in $7 plan will have 5G enabled from today. For those who are not +Movil customers, they can behave by getting a 20% discount for a year.
“The implementation of this fifth-generation network technology represents a significant step towards Panama’s digital transformation and consolidates Más Móvil’s commitment to offering our customers the best connectivity experience. These sites will be the first to enjoy 5G connection speeds in the country,” said Rocío Lorenzo, Executive President and General Manager of Más Móvil.
Progressively the company will implement to more sites and in this way, improve the user experience, interconnecting it to faster connections.
For her part, the general administrator of the National Public Services Authority (ASEP), Zelmar Rodríguez Crespo, was pleased with the initiative taken by the company CABLE & WIRELES PANAMA, S.A. (More Mobile), in advancing with the implementation of 5G technology in mobile telecommunications in Panama.
“At ASEP we are committed to facilitating the development of telecommunications networks and the introduction of new technologies, for the benefit of users. That is why, since we started our administration, we have promoted initiatives for the introduction of 5G technology in our country,” Zelmar Rodríguez added.
In the first stage of expansion in the capital city, the 5G Más Móvil network will significantly improve the user experience, whether they are at a fixed point or moving within the existing coverage footprint.
Más Móvil’s 5G network guarantees immediacy and stability with lower latency on these sites, that is, much faster data transfer on compatible devices, which benefits video game players with real-time interactions, live broadcasts, interactions with immersive content and environments driven by artificial intelligence.
With an annual investment for projects of more than 100 million balboas this 2024, +Móvil de Cable & Wireless Panama began the first phase of pilot tests in the second quarter of 2024; using the 5G network in the 3.5 GHz band – temporary permission granted by the ASEP -, with the purpose of evaluating solutions from several selected local companies, which demonstrated favorable results to 5G connectivity in their operations with a 5G extended LAN network that boosted the speed capacity of faster data with lower latency.
