How about a short 45 minute flight to Miami from the Islands and a 3 hour wait to get through customs, people panicking, women giving birth.  Great way to show case gateways to America like Miami  and New York.

“Authorities are warning of extreme delays in the next few months on entering the United States, after waits of over three hours were recorded in the second quarter, which is low season, at control points of the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, or CBP” reported Laprensa.hn.

Sharon Pinkerton, vice president of Airlines for America, says it’s a big problem. “People get frustrated a lot when taking a seven or nine or even 17 hour flight and then having to wait another two or three hours in a line”. At the airport in Miami, they have chosen to provide regular bottled water to passengers stuck in long lines and the CBP has been asked permission to install a station for snacks in the hallways, said airport spokesman Greg Chin.

Meanwhile, CBP admits that waiting times have increased, pointing to the lack of agents as being the main problem. A CBP official stated that in the past three years, the number of people arriving at U.S. airports from abroad rose by 12% to record levels of more than 100 million a year, while the number of agents had no significant changes.

Airports and airlines indicate that a number of federal budget cuts in the country which came into effect in March, have caused lines to get longer. “For non-citizens, it is almost the worst in the world,” said Chris Rodwell, a tourist from the UK who in the last month has endured long waits at Chicago and JFK, both of over 70 minutes, which motivated him to change his flight plans in order to avoid Miami.
