At the end of 2023, Latin America and the Caribbean projects that the volume of air passengers will reach 708 million by the end of 2023, 3% more than in 2019, according to Rafael Echevarne, general director of the International Council of Airports, Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC), during the Annual Assembly, Conference and Exhibition of ACI-LAC, which takes place in Miami, United States.

These projections confirm that the region has had the fastest recovery since the pandemic and is the first to exceed the volume of air traffic in 2019. According to ACI-LAC figures presented by Echeverne, 55% of the airports in the region have already exceeded the air traffic of 2019. Mexico and Colombia stand out, with growths of 17% and 5% respectively.

It is estimated that by 2024 in Latin America and the Caribbean this positive trend will continue, with 759 million passengers expected, which is equivalent to 10.5% more than in 2019.

For his part, the general director of ACI World, Luis Felipe de Oliveira, explained about the relationship to global air traffic, the forecast he made is that by the end of the year the volume of passengers will reach 8.6 million, which represents 94.2% of the levels of 2019.

2024 is also expected to be a milestone in the recovery of global air traffic, with 9.4 million passengers, finally surpassing 2019 levels. This result should be driven by national traffic, which is estimated to exceed that of 2019 next year. International traffic is expected to exceed 2019 levels by 2025.
