I know that your calendars are filling up with the upcoming events in 2012 including the Panama City Jazz Fest, the Boquete Jazz Fest, the Panama International Film Fest and every other festival we have annually, but now we can add the Iron Man 70.3 series event to our calendar which is coming in February.  Here is the Event Information

EVENT INFO : Ironman World Championship 70.3

Ironman World Championship 70.3 Slot Allocation
Ironman 70.3 Panama is one of more than 50 events worldwide in the Ironman 70.3 Series.  Athletes will swim 1.2 miles (1.9 km) in the Pacific Ocean at the entrance to the Panama Canal, one of The Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Participants will then bike 56 miles (90 km), first crossing the Bridge of the Americas connecting Central and South America en route to the Pan-American Highway. The 13.1 mile (21km), two-loop run course will take athletes through the Amador Causeway, a major tourism area surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, where they can watch ships transit in and out of the Panama Canal while enjoying the beautiful view of the city.

Slated for February 12, 2012, the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Panama will offer a professional prize purse of $75,000 and a total of 35 age group qualifying slots for the 2012 Ironman World Championship 70.3, taking place at Lake Las Vegas, in Henderson, Nev., with more than 1,800 U.S. and international competitors.

Please continue to monitor our website for additional information about the event.

Slot Allocation Policy:
At least one slot shall be allocated to each five-year age group category in which any age group athlete sends in an application, both male and female, per the age group categories listed above. If there are no athletes entered in the race in a particular age group, then that slot will be moved to the largest starting populated age group in that same gender. For additional age group slots, slot allocation shall be representative of the actual number of age grouper applicants in each category in the race. As an example, if 8% of the age-group applicants are females 40-44, then 8% of these slots would be allocated in the female 40-44 category. Since the largest populated age group is dependant upon the number of starters, not the number of entrants, the distribution of slots could change after the race has begun. Athletes must be present at the awards ceremony to claim their slots! You must bring a photo ID and cash or check (NO credit cards accepted!) for the 70.3 World Championship entry fee. Further details will be provided concerning the slot winners at the awards ceremony.
