Hyatt is to open new hotels in Colombia and Chile, along with six properties in Mexico, including the re branding of the 756-room Hotel Nikko Mexico under its Hyatt Regency offering. The newly-announced properties join hotels currently under development in Rio de Janeiro, Panama City, San Jose and Papagayo (Costa Rica), and eight properties already operating in Latin America.  This in from the Business Traveler.

Hyatt is to open new hotels in Colombia and Chile, along with six properties in Mexico, including the rebranding of the 756-room Hotel Nikko Mexico under its Hyatt Regency offering.

Now known as the Hyatt Regency Mexico City, the hotel will undergo a US$40 million renovation project over the next three years.

The property is one of six new or rebranded Hyatt hotels announced for Mexico, the others being the Park Hyatt Los Cabos (scheduled for 2015), the Park Hyatt Riviera Maya (2016), the Andaz Mayakoba (also on the Riviera Maya and scheduled to open in 2015), the Hyatt Playa in Playa del Carmen (2015), the Hyatt Place San Jose del Cabo (2013), and the Hyatt Place Tijuana (2013).

In Chile the group is set to open the Hyatt Place Vitacura in Santiago later this year, while in Colombia the oceanside Hyatt Regency Cartagena is scheduled to open in 2015.

The newly-announced properties join hotels currently under development in Rio de Janeiro (see online news December 23, 2010), Panama City, San Jose and Papagayo (Costa Rica), and eight properties already operating in Latin America.
