A public consultation must be made to subsequently grant the definitive concession of the bands for the use of the 5G network
The technology company Huawei announced that it has chosen Panama as the headquarters of its first Cybersecurity and Transparency Center for Latin America, the newspaper La Prensa reported.
Panama’s choice is due to its geographical position, said Daniel Zhou, president of Huawei for Latin America and the Caribbean.
That new center, which is expected to be inaugurated in the second half of this year, will serve as a direct communication platform for customers in the region on cybersecurity and transparency issues, he added.
Huawei’s website also points out that these centers aim to increase collaboration with security professionals, government agencies, customers and other people interested in these issues.
In these spaces, governments can go directly to audit Huawei’s equipment and solutions.
They get access to the core of those programs so that the external auditors of the governments can review the codes and in this way validate if they are safe or if they present any irregularities.
The announcement was made as part of a meeting with Latin American media that attended the Huawei Cloud Compass in the Chinese city of Shenzhen.
During the conversation with members of Latin American media, Huawei’s president for Latin America and the Caribbean spoke about the advance of the 5G network in the country.
Currently, Panama, through the Public Services Authority (ASEP), is conducting tests for the use of the 5G network.
At the end of April, the director of the ASEP, Armando Fuentes, stressed that the country must carry out a public consultation to subsequently grant the definitive concession of the bands for the use of the 5G network to the two operators that are currently in the country.
