The new rule also establishes that women will be able to access childbirth and puerperal services at no cost

Women will have free access to health services during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum in all public health facilities in the country.

The Ministry of Health will be responsible for establishing a functional reference system for all pregnant women in the obstetric process, as well as in family planning, according to Law 346 of November 23, 2022 published in the Official Gazette.

From this date, the public health system will promote the strengthening of all relevant actions for the promotion of good health, disease prevention, as well as sexual and reproductive health, at the national and community level, following the standards of care of the programs and keeping the appropriate records,” explains the standard.

In 2020, 69,945 live births were registered, details the National Institute of Statistics and Census.
