Variation of regional exports
Between January and September of 2016 and 2017, the export volume of frozen shrimp and langoustine recorded an increase of 21%, rising from 33 thousand tons in 2016 to 41 thousand tons last year.
The export value increased by 23%, rising from $224 million in 2015 to $275 million in 2017.
Exports by country
In the first nine months of 2017, the main exporter of frozen shrimp and langoustines in Central America continued to be Honduras, with $185 million, followed by Panama, with $45 million, Nicaragua, with $30 million, Costa Rica with $9 million, Guatemala, with $6 million and El Salvador with $0.3 million.
Destination of exports
From January to September 2017, 25% of the value exported from Central America went to the US, 15% to Taiwan, 14% to Mexico, 14% to the United Kingdom and 8% to Spain.
Price of exports
Between January 2012 and September 2017, the average price per kilo of frozen shrimp and langoustine by countries in the region ranged from $9.17 to $4.74.
