In case the judge had already issued the extradition certificate, lawyers asked Judge Edwin Torres to suspend the order that should follow the ruling issued on Thursday, August 31, and place him in custody of the State Department, which takes the final decision.

Thus, Martinelli fulfills his promise to exhaust ‘all the legal resources’ in the northern country, where he has been detained since last June 12 in a federal prison in Miami, under extradition request to answer for a case where it is supposed responsible for illegal espionage.
Martinelli is accused of four crimes, for which Panama requested in September 2016 his extradition: against individual liberty, interception of communications without judicial authorization and two others of embezzlement by the use of public funds.
