Electric car owners will not pay for a license plate for the first five years in Panama

As part of the “Green Plate Plan” and achieving better standards of environmental preservation, the Municipality of Panama announced that owners of electric cars in the first five years will not have to pay road tax.

According to the head of Municipal Treasury Collection, Ana Polo, the green plates are already being delivered, and she explained that the owners can do the procedure at the municipal offices, to register their car and receive the benefit of the exemption.

He added that at the moment work is being done to refine the statistics, so that the information about this new vehicle fleet is registered in the coming weeks, in addition to the fact that there is still talks with car distributors with this technology, to compare information.

According to the figures for the first four months of the year, a total of 141 100% electric cars were sold, exceeding the figures of the same period in 2023, and has shown a constant increase, highlighting a significant improvement compared to the previous year.

This progressive increase reflects a positive shift towards sustainable mobility in Panama, and the upward trend in electric vehicle sales is attributed to government initiatives and greater environmental awareness among consumers.
