The Electric Generation Company (EGESA) has received approval from its Board of Directors for the construction of a new 5 Megawatt (MW) solar plant, a key step in the progress towards a more sustainable energy model for Panama.
The new solar plant aims to significantly increase the renewable energy generation capacity in Panama, so the use of the country’s solar resources will optimize the production of clean electricity, contributing to the stability and strength of the national energy system.
This expansion project will also reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources and bring Panama closer to greater self-sufficiency in energy production, and the new solar plant is expected to strengthen the commitment to sustainability, as the country works on its transition to a greener energy future.
Currently, EGESA operates the Sarigua Solar Plant, which with an installed capacity of 2.4 MW supplies 30% of the electricity consumption of the Parita District, benefiting more than 7,000 people.
The incorporation of the new 5 MW plant will significantly increase the production of clean energy, consolidating Panama’s position as a leader in the use of renewable energy in the region.
