Dell Technologies celebrates 21 years driving technological transformation from Panama

News from Panama / Friday, June 28th, 2024

Dell in Panama has the only Global Services Command Center in Latin America, out of only 6 in the world.

40 years ago, Michael Dell founded PC’s Limited with $1,000 and a revolutionary dream of changing the way technologies are designed, manufactured and sold.

From his bedroom in Austin, Texas, he began a journey that would transform the technology industry.

Following this innovative spirit, 21 years ago, Dell Technologies began operations in Panama. As one of the pioneering companies in the economic area of Panama Pacific, the multinational not only established its presence, but also marked a significant milestone in business growth and contributed to the development of the country. Its evolution was exponential, going from being a contact center to becoming a Global Center for Shared Services.

Today, Dell’s headquarters in Panama is the company’s second largest operation in Latin America. It has become a benchmark for the region, with a global reach. This campus supports the operation in critical functions such as accounting, taxes, human resources, auditing, finance, marketing, legal, sales, customer service, technical support, among others. Thus, Dell Technologies continues its mission to promote human progress through technology, both in Panama and in the rest of the world.

The American company’s investment in Panama was influenced by the competitive advantages that the country offers, among which are: Strategic geographical location, economic stability, dollarized currency, security, availability of highly qualified professionals and legal frameworks that provide flexible labor laws.

“Through our business operations and with the members of our team, Dell Panama stimulated more than US$310 million in economic activity during fiscal year 2024 and contributed more than US$215 million to Panama’s GDP, demonstrating our commitment to the region as part of our global strategy,” said Niurka Montero, general manager of Dell Technologies in Panama.

Dell in Panama has the only Global Services Command Center in Latin America, of only 6 in the world; which plays a fundamental role in the supervision of its customers’ installed bases, to comply with warranty commitments and the monitoring of external factors such as air traffic and weather conditions, which could influence service agreements.

This command center allows the shipment of approximately 10,000 services per week to 42 countries. This highlights the importance of the Panama campus within Dell Technologies’ global strategy.

With technology advancing rapidly, Dell sees generative artificial intelligence (AI) as a fundamental opportunity to drive human progress in a meaningful way. The implementation of AI, especially in environments such as multicloud and managed services, is positioning Dell not only as a provider of integral technology solutions, but also as a strategic leader in facilitating business development.

From this perspective, Dell Technologies opens the possibility for Panamanian and regional companies to have access from the PC to the data center, to mobility and connectivity to the cloud and now to AI and in this way they can implement solutions in this era of digital transformation. This not only optimizes operations, but also promotes innovation and contributes to the country’s economic growth.

The global trend indicates that jobs in technology will continue to have a greater demand than traditional ones and it is evident how AI and Generative AI are increasingly integrated into people’s daily lives. Aware that evolution must be the constant, Dell assumes its responsibility for the education and technological development of the country, promoting the adoption of STEM careers (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to thrive in the digital age. These initiatives include alliances and programs with educational institutions and NGOs to strengthen the technological curriculum.

With the ITSE, Dell co-creates programs to train students in technology, while, with the UTP, it offers specialized training in infrastructure and virtualization, in addition to promoting female participation in STEM careers through the STEMAspire program.

In the field of NGOs, Dell collaborates with Junior Achievement to train young students in business and work skills, including Python programming. It also supports the Innova-Nation Fest to promote youth entrepreneurship and collaborates with Glasswing to equip InfoPlazas and develop digital skills, thus contributing to reducing the digital divide and improving employability.

“We are more relevant than ever when you think about the technological opportunities we have in front of us. After 40 years in business and 21 years of presence in Panama, we couldn’t be more optimistic about our future. We’ve only just started.” I conclude, Montero.
