The government is analyzing a proposal put forward by Del Monte to revive banana production in the area, which would involve an investment of $126 million on the part of the company.
The Minister of the Presidency, Alvaro German, told Prensa.com that “… the negotiations with the company will begin in the first week of May and are scheduled to last until the end of June.”
As part of the agreement between Del Monte and the State the company will be granted in concession the right to use the infrastructure in lease form for about 20 years. The plan is for reactivation of production to be made in an area of ??1765 hectares.
The Minister of the Presidency said that once the agreement has been finalized, they expected to present it to the Assembly at the start of the new regular session, on July 1.
