Dako Worldwide Transport has transported a diesel engine driven power plant from different points of origin in Northern and Southern Europe to La Chorrera, Panama.

The transportation of the heart of the plant, which consisted of three heavy diesel engines weighing close to 300 tonnes, moved through the Panama Canal on its journey from Trieste to Puerto Caimito, and then onto the final construction site in La Chorrera.

The engines were discharged in the Port of Cristobal by the ship’s gear and directly loaded onto a flattop barge, where stools and beams were in place to receive the heavy cargoes.

The cargo proceeded through the Panama Canal and headed northeast along the coast to a small fishing port in Puerto Caimito, where the German-based Global Project Network member had constructed a jetty for roll-on, roll-off discharge of the heavy pieces.

In addition to the construction of the pier, Dako Worldwide had also strengthened three bridges, removed traffic signs and cut branches off trees to allow the transportation between Puerto Caimito and the power plant.

At the construction site, both Dako Worldwide and its subcontractor were responsible for the placement of the diesel engines onto their foundations, and placing of the three generators with unit weights of 70 tonnes and a heavy transformer.
