Construction phase of Puerto Barú in Chiriquí will begin in 2025 generating more than 1,200 jobs

By mid-2025 the first construction work could be taking place with hiring people in the field, mobilization of equipment, earth movement and the camp, according to the Project Manager in David, engineer Nicolás Posada.

According to Posada, to start in this constructive phase that will begin to be two years of construction, the total number of workers would be about 1,200, specifically in what is construction without counting what is suppliers of materials that would be and services related to construction.

“In the first phase, that is, with the construction of those first two years, 950 people of direct jobs, then those two years follow other construction work in the back and complementary to tourism and the logistical part of the Free Zone and that will generate other additional jobs to the 950,” Posada stressed.

In this year, the project in January received the approval of the environmental impact study, after that began the final constructive designs that have to integrate everything that was approved in the environmental license with its specifications as the foot of the law.

Posada mentioned that it is expected that at the end of the year in the Municipality the preliminary project will be presented, which is the most part of the urban component, the project according to the territorial order scheme and then in the first quarter of 2025 the construction plans are presented to the municipality to request the permit.

Puerto Barú is a multi-purpose port located in the Pacific of the province of Chiriquí, and will be able to meet the needs of the Panamanian West. It will be based on three pillars that are: Tourism (with a focus on Eco-Tourism), agro-industry and logistics.
