The Panama-David train is the star project of the new government, José Ramón Icaza, appointed by President-elect José Raúl Mulino as Secretary of Goals and Minister for Canal Affairs, said on Thursday.
Icaza confirmed to Ensegundos.com.pa Mulino’s interest in fulfilling that electoral promise, so they will resume the studies carried out to start it.
“In the Secretariat of Goals we will be coordinating the State projects with the ministries and institutions and one of them will be the construction of the Panama-David train,” Icaza said minutes after the president-elect formally presented him as a member of his cabinet.
He reiterated that the project has priority. In fact, Mulino has expressed his desire for the work to begin from David, but he made it clear that that will be decided by the experts.
According to previous feasibility studies carried out in the last administration, the project would cost approximately $4.00 million, would travel at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour and would take an average of 2.5 hours to travel 390 kilometers between Panama and David. It would be built in six years.
