This in from my friend Geoffrey who is marketing this nice property in Uruguay
I recently visited this area of Uruguay when we stayed in Buenos Aires and I was very impressed with the quality of Uruguayan beef, some of the best in the world. The land is fertile, the climate good and a lot of natural resources for cattle farming.
You have go to see the video to truly appreciate the quality of life for both animals and humans here. I want to come back as a cowboy when I die!!
Estancia Isla de Lobos, 1250 hectares, is a hidden, undiscovered paradise, surrounded by impressive rivers at the quiet west-cost of Uruguay, a combination of abundant nature and ideal conditions for cattle. Isla de Lobos is located approx 4 hours by car from Buenos Aires and approx 3,5 hours from Uruguay’s capital Montevideo. Nearest cities are Dolores and Mercedes, approx 25 & 40 km respectively. The nearest village is the historic Villa Soriano, at the shore of the Rio Negro, approx 3 km by boat. The present owners enjoy crossing from Buenos Aires to Isla de Lobos by speed-boat.
The other half of the island is kept natural, partially flood-land, for autochthonous fauna and flora. During flooding’s the cattle move to the higher ground, and during droughts there is always sufficient food in the wetlands.
Cattle are transported to the mainland with a simple pontoon (called Huckleberry Finn).
The horses of the Estancia are utilized by the gauchos for their daily ride to check the cattle and serve for fun horse-back riding through the ‘campo’ and on the long, private sand beach.
Production: As a farm Isla Lobos, it has ideal conditions for cattle breeding, horses, forestry, honey, etc. Today, on approximately half of the estancia a cattle-herd of 500 head is producing year-round grass-fed calves, of which some are held to grow the cattle herd and some sold. The other half of the island is kept natural, partially flood-land, for indigenous fauna and flora. During flooding’s the cattle move to higher land and during dry times there is always sufficient food in the wetlands. Cattle are transported with a simple pontoon (called Huckleberry Finn) with an outboard engine. The horses of the Estancia are utilised by the Gauchos for their daily ride to check the cattle and serve for fun horse-back riding through the campo and on the long, private sand beach. Due to its unique location, away from pollution, honey of export quality can be produced.
