The Minister of Commerce and Industries of Panama, Julio Moltó, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Carlos Hoyos, met with Carlos López, president of Chiquita Brands, who presented an overview of the company’s operations in the country.
In a meeting focused on strengthening the business relationship, the president of Chiquita Brands, Carlos López, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Panama. Accompanied by Jorge Solergibert and Alejandro Ferrer, the company’s legal advisors, López highlighted Chiquita’s intention to continue contributing to economic development and job creation in the country.
“We are strengthening our partnership with Panama, a relationship that extends for more than 100 years. We firmly believe in the country’s economic potential and we are eager to contribute even more to local growth and the generation of more jobs,” López said.
Chiquita Brands currently operates on 5,000 hectares in Panama, providing about 6,000 direct jobs and being the main exporter of Panamanian products. During the meeting, the possibility of expanding the export of Panamanian bananas to new markets was discussed.
Minister Moltó and Deputy Minister Hoyos thanked the visit of the representatives of Chiquita and highlighted the role of the MICI as a facilitator of business operations, pledging to support investments within the current regulatory framework to strengthen the country’s economy.
