A total of 6,000 bulletproof vests and 6,000 protective helmets were donated by China to the country’s public security estates, valued at $4 million.
The donation was made by Chinese ambassador Wei Qiang, who explained that it was an agreement to “strengthen the cooperation agenda between the two nations.”
He indicated that regardless of the citizen security situation in the country, in which the Chinese community in Panama is also affected, “it is always an objective of the Chinese government to strengthen the cooperation agenda in multiple areas.”
For his part, the Minister of Public Security, Juan Pino, explained that since 2020 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs managed this donation, but due to the pandemic the process was delayed. “Thank God it came,” he said.
He indicated that 4,000 vests will be distributed among members of the National Police, one thousand for the Naval Air Force Service and a thousand for the National Border Service. In the same way, the helmets will be distributed.
