Giving, try it you will like it!

News from Panama / Friday, October 19th, 2012

It is with great honor that we announce our donations to the following organizations.  We have been blessed with a good year in business and it is time to put a little back into what we see as good causes here in our community.  My partner Rolando Miranda and I look forward to our continued support of these fine organizations.

Bid 4 Boquete

Our cash donation to Fundacion Bid 4 Boquete will go directly to the greater Boquete community and help in many, many ways. The money that they raised last year:

  • paid for the furniture in the new library
  • supported twelve spay and neuter clinics
  • helped to feed 130 handicapped, elderly, and desperately poor people
  • contributed to the building fund for the handicap foundation
  • funded the Loco Por Leer literacy program in Palmira
  • assisted the 20-30 club with their charitable work
  • supported a children’s literacy program in Palmira
  • paid to send the kids at Casa Hogar Trisker to summer camp
  • helped keep the doors of ReAL recycling center open

Mission Statement

To create a sustainable fishery here in the gulf of Chiriquí now and in the future.

The Beginning

  • Create new and enforceable fishing regulations within the boundaries of the Coiba National Park, which now includes both Hannibal Bank and Islas Montuosa Island and surrounding waters.
  • Establish a working relationship with enforcement personal, helping them with information that will aid them in enforcement of existing laws.
  • Work will all participating member fishing lodges in sharing information that will benefit the project.
  • Create “sport fishing regulations” acceptable to all members.
  • Create a protected species list, Example; Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Striped Marlin, Sail Fish, Rooster fish, Grouper and Cubera Snapper.
  • Establish a minimum size limit on other listed species.
  • Create a daily per angler species limit.
  • Work to simplify existing requirements of obtaining licensing and permission from the Coiba National park.
  • Form a coalition with dive and spear fishing organizations. Establish a working agreement with them.
  • Try to establish a working relationship with commercial interests. Try and get set tonnage limits and seasons plus catch date to help in the overall catch data.
  • Have participating lodges maintain a daily log on board each boat noting number of fish and species released or maintained. That information is to be used to prove what a small percentage we as sport fishing interests are taking.

With the above goals the fishery here in the gulf of Chiriqui could maintain a sustainable future. We can then press on with participating members from other sport fishing locations in Panama.
