Cervecería Nacional will invest $2 million in the construction of solar farms

News from Panama / Friday, June 7th, 2024

With an investment of US$2 million, the National Brewery expects to launch six solar farms throughout 2024, located to cover the energy of its distribution centers in areas such as Darién, Majagua, Veraguas, Herrera, Las Sabanas and San Cristóbal, installation of solar panels will allow a reduction of 422 tons of CO2 per year.

Similarly, the National Brewery expects to end the year 2024 with 99% of renewable energy in its Distribution Centers throughout the Republic of Panama, with the opening of these farms of more than 250 solar panels, which will provide them with clean energy.

The execution of this project is carried out in conjunction with the company Celsia, who are responsible for the design, installation and management of the efficiency of the panels, providing maintenance and operation of them, connected to the network (On Grid) for the next 12 years.

He recently inaugurated a new solar farm in La Chorrera, which is in addition to the 32,040 solar panels that have already been installed for the operation of the plant and the Distribution Center located in the province of Colón, which served as the pilot of this macroproject.

According to Eloy Lever, Director of Corporate Affairs at Cervecería Nacional, the company is working on a sustainability strategy that has been developed for more than five years.

“Today we mark a milestone that fills us with emotion and that is a step forward to be a company with zero emissions. We have already produced our local portfolio with 100% solar energy, and now is the time to extend these efforts to more areas of our production chain,” Lever said.

He added that it is a paradigm shift that seeks the correct operational-environmental management and that will benefit in the long term, both the company and the country.

For his part, Javier Gutiérrez, Leader of Celsia Central America pointed out, this solar farm is a project that reflects Celsia Central America’s commitment to environmental sustainability and a cleaner future.

“We have installed 243 solar panels of 560W each and 5 inverters of 20kW, ensuring maximum efficiency and reliability. We will generate 192,039 kWh of clean energy annually, equivalent to the consumption of 50 Panamanian families, reducing 67.5 tons of CO2, equivalent to the action of 3,750 mature trees,” Gutiérrez explained.

This project demonstrates our commitment to the sustainability of Panama. I thank all those who have worked tirelessly to make this initiative possible, which is only the beginning of many future efforts to promote sustainable and responsible development in the country.”
