News from Panama / Friday, October 28th, 2022

Cervecería Nacional, a subsidiary of AB-InBev in the country, presented the first electric truck that runs on solar energy, becoming the first company in Panama and Central America to incorporate renewable energy into its fleet of trucks, as part of its sustainability efforts.

The electric truck will save 40% on CO2 emissions compared to a conventional truck and will be fed daily with the solar energy produced in the solar farm installed in its distribution center located in the province of Colón. It has an uninterrupted range of 165 kilometers and its use is equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting 425 trees per year. This initiative represents an initial investment of more than $195,000.

“This is a pilot plan that we will be implementing progressively in our operations. By 2025, we will have 5 electric trucks in our fleet, which will bring us closer to our goal of reducing our CO2 emissions by 25%,” said Eloy Lever, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Cervecería Nacional.

This new electric truck is the result of an agreement between leading companies in the sector. The vehicle that will be used in the areas of the city of Colón in the Province of Colón, has dimensions of 8.2 meters x 2.5 meters and 3.2 meters high, was manufactured by the company BYD and will be operated through the company Truckslogic, supplier of Cervecería Nacional. This investment by the company in favor of the environment was financed by Banistmo.

“Being a reference in sustainability means taking the first steps for other companies to join this responsibility that we have as a sector. Today we become the first company in Panama and Central America to make an initiative of this kind. Within Ab-InBev we are the third operation, after Mexico and Colombia, to implement this initiative and we want to continue to be an example for the present and future of the business sector that becoming a sustainable company is possible,” Lever added.

“Our vision at Truckslogic International is to build on green logistics with a last-mile distribution with less environmental impact. For several years we have been promoting the incorporation of new sustainable solutions throughout the region and by incorporating the 100% electric truck into distribution, we have a powerful example at the regional level to inspire other companies to transform and strengthen their logistics design towards more sustainable models,” said José Gabriel Lamas, CEO of Truckslogic International.

Cervecería Nacional as part of Ab-InBev’s global strategy has established, by 2040, zero CO2 emissions. The company consolidates its position as one of the leading benchmarks in Panama in terms of sustainability and reaffirms its commitment to build a future with more reasons to provide.
