In the first six months of 2019, Central American countries imported $38 million in wine, and purchases from Chilean companies increased by 11% over the same period in 2018.
Regional Business Upwards
Between the first half of 2018 and the same period in 2019, the value of wine imports into Central America registered a 2% increase, rising from $37 million to $38 million.
For the periods in question, imports from Chile increased 11%, with purchases rising from $11.3 million to $12.6 million.
Costa Rican Companies, Main Buyers
From January to June 2019, the main importer in the region continued to be Costa Rica with $14 million, followed by Panama with $11 million, Guatemala with $7 million, El Salvador with $3 million, Honduras with $2 million, and Nicaragua with $1.1 million.
Main Suppliers
In the first six months of last year, 33% of the value imported from Central America came from Chile, 22% from Spain, 9% from the USA, 9% from Italy and 8% from Argentina.
For the months in question over the last eight years, Spain is the fastest growing source market for purchases, rising from 10% in 2012 to 22% in 2019.
