The Panamanian passport is ranked number 7 in Latin America and 31 worldwide, as announced by the Henley Passport Index, which shows the ranking of the most powerful passports in the world.

The way in which the consulting firm Henley & Partners develops this index is based on exclusive and official data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA), which maintains the largest and most accurate travel information database in the world, is by comparing the visa-free access of 199 different passports to 227 travel destinations. If a visa is not required, a score with a value of = 1 is created for that passport. The same applies if you can obtain a visa on arrival, a visitor permit or an electronic travel authorization (ETA) when entering the destination.

According to the August 2023 index edition, in Latin America, the Chilean passport is the most powerful in the region. His passport allows him to enter 174 nations without a visa, thus making him the most powerful in the region and globally, occupying the 16th position.

On the opposite side, the passports with the least power in the region are those of Haiti, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. They allow visa-free access to 51, 63 and 70 destinations, respectively.

The ends of the index

In the August index, Singapore is the country that has the passport with access to the most countries, 193, without a visa. At the beginning of 2023, Japan revalidated its first place in the world passport ranking, but has dropped to third place with access to 189 countries.

In the queue are the three weakest passports in the world: Afghanistan, which remains entrenched at the bottom, with a visa-free access score of only 27, followed by Iraq with 29 and Syria 30.
