Firefighters raise the amount of fines for non-compliance with fire prevention services

News from Panama / Saturday, September 16th, 2023

The Board of the Meritorious Fire Department of the Republic of Panama (BCBRP) approved Resolution No. 102-2023 of July 5, 2023, which modifies the Service Fee provided by the institution and defines the General List to be complied with in terms of fire prevention, announced this Friday, September 15 through a press release.

The aforementioned Resolution adapts the current Rates and establishes fixed rates to the penalties for non-compliance with security measures.

From the date, the criteria to be considered to establish the amount of the fine will be determined for the cost of the service established in the rate, in which it has been breached.

In relation to the General List approved by Resolution No. 102-2023, this includes the elements to be complied with as part of the proper maintenance of the buildings, a responsibility of the Boards of Directors of the Horizontal Properties, owners and / or inhabitants of real estate.

Among the elements, whose status must be checked periodically, are the means of exit, stairs, electrical and mechanical systems and equipment, such as elevators and escalators, electric generators, detection systems and fire alarms.

Likewise, fire systems must be checked, which include the fire pump, wet system, sprinkler system and pressurization of stairs (if your building has these systems).

Resolution No. 102-2023, approved by the Board of Trustees, details that the means of exit must be inspected according to the requirements of the Human Security Regulation (RSH) of the Technical Board of Engineering and Architecture of the Republic of Panama (JTIA) in order to ensure that they are free of obstructions.

Likewise, it establishes that if the building has fire pumps, they must be inspected, tested and maintained in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation of Stationary Fire Pump Systems (RBE).

It is worth noting that the inspection, maintenance, repair and certification of the proper functioning must be carried out by a company duly registered with the JTIA and the National Directorate of Security, Prevention and Fire Investigation of the BCBRP.
