Beekeeping activity in Panama is growing

Panama has a growing beekeeping activity, which encourages its consumption in the population, since it is a healthy alternative to sugar that also provides multiple benefits.

According to reports from the Beekeeping Improvement Program, promoted by the Directorate of Livestock of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA), Panama has a production of 63,710 gallons of honey per year, produced by a total of 576 producers.

This production of honey is obtained from about 14,679 hives, with the province of Chiriquí being the largest producer with 8,915 hives and 37,277 gallons of honey, followed by Veraguas with 3,065 hives and 15,565 gallons of honey and Herrera, reported 875 hives with 3,514 gallons of honey.

Similarly, Coclé produces 1,425 gallons of honey, Capira, 1,842 gallons, Colón, 957.5 gallons, Chepo, 2,467, Los Santos 510 gallons, Bocas del Toro, 30 gallons, Darién, 57.2 gallons and the Region, 65 gallons.
