In order to facilitate Panamanian access to the banking system, executives of the Panama Banking Association (ABP), met with the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, to achieve some points in consensus towards that objective.
President Mulino said that he is very interested in banking for Panamanians, so that everyone has a bank account, so he asked representatives of the banking sector to help him.
He added that to achieve this objective and generate confidence in the banks operating in the country, under his administration the Financial Analysis Unit (UAF), will be the entity that helps the system, and that it will not be used either for political persecution, nor to obstruct the access of honest Panamanians to any type of account.
For its part, the representation of the ABP that was headed by the president of the Board of Directors, Raúl Guizado Novey, expressed its willingness to work together with the National Government, towards the modernization of the banking system.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Felipe Chapman, who stressed that the National Government is working on the preparation of a prudent and realistic budget with the situation of the country’s finances, and administered with transparency, this in order to generate the confidence that is needed, in order to achieve economic recovery.
