What a wonderful time we had in my favorite part of the world. Volcanos, rivers, cascades, ocean, lakes and mountains like you have never seen before. Southern Chile was colonized by the Germans in the mid 1800s and they transformed the vast forests into pasture where they raised sheep, horses, cows and the native llamas. That still exists today along with their architecture and great beer, chocolate and food.
Susie and I had some wondrous experiences this trip and made new friends, drank excellent wine and dined on world class cuisine. We stayed at a few notable places like Hotel Antumalal. A boutique hotel, with Bauhaus architecture and elegant design, Antumalal is located on the shores of Lake Villarrica in the centre of a 5-hectare private park just 2 km from the city of Pucón. The Spa Antumaco, constructed in magnificent surroundings and is sculpted from natural rock. The installations include an indoor heated pool, a spacious sauna with lake view, hydro massage pool and open-air showers. In addition, since 1950 the Restaurant Parque Antumalal has been a culinary must in Pucón and the Araucanía region. With an incomparable view of Lake Villarrica, the restaurant combines innovation with tradition and excellent personalized service. Timeless and elegant. Hotel Antumalal: Simply an Experience. The Queen of England, Jimmy Stewart and many more stayed here.
Here is a aerial tour.
We spent time around the lake town of Pucon and visited Villiarica Volcano which is the most active in South America.
