blind spot

Boquete was honored this week by the visit of Ruth Bieber.  Ruth has been holding classes at our Boquete Community Players theater this week.  On Tuesday she presented her award wining documentary about her epic journey as a first time horseback rider where she and two of her Canadian friends rode thru the raw and wild Argentinian region of Patagoinia.  What is so special about all of this is the Ruth Bieber, Terry Kelly and Carly Grigg are all blind.

Imagine if you had your kitchen chairs stacked chest high and you were sitting on them at the edge of 11,400 foot high Volcan Baru with your eyes closed. As you try to balance the wind begins to howl and you are in a desperate search for balance and where failure means certain injury or death. Try doing that for ten days.

Blind since age six, Ruth, a Canadian, was one of three people asked to participate in a documentary which has become the award winning film: Blind Spot; Moments Unseen. The extraordinary cinematography is the backdrop as the film explores unbounded courage in three lives touched by a terrible beauty experienced with every other sense but sight. It won top honors as Best International Documentary at the 2015 Equus Film Festival in New York.
