5MW of capacity is the new total of the joint generation of the 86 solar projects that are registered with the National Secretariat of Energy.

Tax incentives included in Law 37 of 2013 and Law 38, as amended this year, are encouraging the development of renewable energy projects such as solar or wind plants in different areas in Panama.

Experts in the subject consulted by Martesfinanciero.com indicated that there has been a growing interest on the part of small and medium sized companies to install renewable energy generation systems on a small scale. However, Carlos Montanez from the company Consultoría, Construcción y Mantenimiento (CCM), which specializes in small solar residential projects from 2 kwh to 150 kwh,   “… believes that there are insufficient incentives for small businesses. And he argues that large companies focused on commercial projects manage their costs better than those small businesses dedicated to the residential sector. ”

Data from the SNE projects that by 2020 the installed wind power capacity in the country will reach 668 MW. At the same time, the official goal is that by 2050 70% of energy be generated using renewable sources such as solar, hydro, biomass and wind.
