Air Panama to establish new Costa Rican subsidiary

News from Panama / Monday, February 17th, 2014

Air Panama shareholders George Novey and Eduardo Stagg have pulled together to form Tica Air International, according to reports.

The new Costa Rican start-up is reportedly set to launch flights sometime before December of this year, which will be a subsidiary of Air Panama.

Reports claim that the carrier will launch flights between San Jose Juan Santamaria and Miami International, using an Air Panama B737-300, while other routes are also planned.

I used to fly from Miami to San Jose, layover for 2 hours then direct to David.  So I could leave Miami at 8:30 and be in Boquete by 2 PM.  That was a Taca Air route before it was abruptly canceled.  Now we might be able to fly from Miami to San Jose and connect with a flight to David with the same carrier.  With all of its faults, Air Panama is still a pretty good little airline.

Stagg says by the two companies running in parallel to one another it would provide for better economies of scale.

Reports in Latin America also say Puerto Rico start-up TICOS, has stalled in its Air Operators Certificate application.

The carrier had planned to launch flights before the end of last year, but has reportedly failed to present any of its planned five A319-100s to the local civil aviation authority.
