The State of Panama to Buy “Green”

News from Panama / Tuesday, October 8th, 2013

The UN has selected Panama for this pilot project.

Ten state institutions have adjusted their catalogs to the concept of acquiring products and services that meet sustainability standards.

Eldis Sanchez, Director of Public Procurement, said “the government buys goods and services worth up to $3 billion a year, of that total, $200 million are made through the electronic catalog Panamá Compra” reported Panamaamerica.com.pa.

Panama was chosen by the UN as one of the pilot countries for the implementation of a sustainable public procurement project. The plan is to introduce within this catalog products and services that have specifications and sustainability standards through regulations to be established by the participants of the United Nations Program for the Environment (UNEP).
