Panamanian Pineapple Ventures into Russian Market

Uncategorized / Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

Farmers here in Chiriqui know how to grow some of the best produce in the Americas and it varies as greatly as the altitude here where we can grow like carrots and cabbage at  6,000 feet and within an hour be harvesting fruit like Pineapples at sea level.  The trick is not how to grow the best.  The challenge today is to find new markets and exports will be the next big thing for farmers here. I cannot wait for direct international flights from David returning to Miami full of fruit and vegetables from my friend’s farms and headed to Publix Supermarkets three hours away!!

This in from the CentralAmericaData.com Express.

The Panamanian company Ramafrut S.L. has made its first shipment of fresh pineapple to the Russian market.

Billed as gourmet product, commercial prices in the Russian market can be up to $10 a pound.

For their part, the companies Dalotta and FASP recently signed a buy-sell agreement with the German importer Don Limon for the production of 50 hectares of pineapple, muskmelon and watermelon, to be marketed in Europe as well as Asia.

“For the president of the Union of Non-Traditional Agricultural Exporters of Panama (GANTRAP), Edwin Perez, the opening of new markets is essential for business growth.. ‘Panama has quality products and that quality is known about and paid for abroad ‘, said the exporters” published Laestrella.com.pa
