In the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the president of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, held a meeting with Vincent Clerc, CEO of A.P. Moller – Maersk, to strengthen collaboration in the modernization of the country’s port and logistics infrastructure.

During the meeting, strategies were discussed to take advantage of Panama’s strategic position as a global logistics center, improve the sustainability of port operations and optimize the efficiency of the supply chain through innovative technologies. Clerc reiterated Maersk’s commitment to Panamanian economic development, highlighting the importance of the historical relationship between both parties, which dates back to 1917 with the company’s first transits through the Panama Canal.

Maersk, which handles 35% of Panama’s import and export volume, plays a crucial role in the country’s commercial competitiveness. With more than 600 employees, two warehouses and operations in Panama City and Colón, the company contributes significantly to economic growth, global connectivity and local business access to international markets.

The Multinational Enterprise Headquarters (SEM) regime in Panama has allowed Maersk and other large companies to invest in the country, consolidating their role as a global logistics hub. Clerc presented proposals to optimize port processes, promote digitization and strengthen the railway infrastructure, which would benefit both Panama’s foreign trade and competitiveness in international markets.

The meeting was also attended by senior Panamanian officials, including the Ministers of Trade and Industries and Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives of the Panama Canal Authority.
