News from Panama / Friday, January 17th, 2025

With the aim of facing the challenges of the European Union Green Deal, which will require supply chains free of deforestation from the end of 2025, the Ministry of Trade and Industries (MICI) and the Panamanian Association of Exporters (APEX) work together to ensure compliance with these regulations.

An inter-institutional technical table has been created with the participation of the MICI, the Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente) and the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) to coordinate strategies that ensure the sustainability of Panamanian exports. This effort is crucial to maintain the access of national products to international markets.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Carlos Hoyos, highlighted the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to strengthen competitiveness and promote sustainability in key sectors such as agriculture, industry, agro-industrial and fishing.

During the meeting, APEX presented proposals related to the certification of processing plants, the promotion of MICI activities and commercial negotiations. The delegation was led by its president Bianca Moran and other representatives of the union.
