People who live on the streets of Panama City received medical and psychological care from the Mayor’s Office of Panama and other government and social entities on Wednesday, November 27.
The Directorate of Social Management of the Municipality of Panama was in charge of providing health care to 35 people, mostly men, while offering them food and hygiene.
The impacted sectors were those of San Miguel, Frangipani Avenue, Alejandro Duque Street, Cape Verde and the premises of the National Assembly and Avenida de los Mártires.
According to the figures of the 2020 Population and Housing Census, in the province of Panama there are about 400 people living on the streets. In many cases, these people keep personal documents with them and even answered census questionnaires.
The mayor of Panama, Mayer Mizrachi, indicated during the operation that he “will not rest until the situation of the homeless has been resolved”.
Its administration has been characterized by an incisive policy of recovery of public space.
The operation concluded with the cleaning of the sidewalks and the removal of accumulated debris in an “effort to restore dignity and cleanliness to these public spaces,” reads a statement from the Mayor’s Office.
